Challenge 2010

Your Challenge for 2010 is to challenge yourself.  Step out of your comfort zone and try something new.  If you have never made a wall hanging, why not try? Are you afraid to work with Batiks? You may be surprised at what you can create.  Or is it a challenge just to complete a project?  Finish up that masterpiece you have been putting off.

We have a few categories that your project can fit into:
1.      Bed size
2.      Wall hanging traditional
3.      Wall hanging innovative
4.      Plus misc. sewing projects like apparel, handbags, or other fabric art.

The true challenge is to just have fun!

There will be prizes .  They will be simply awarded on viewer’s choice of the best in a category.  After we have a chance to read your artist statements, we may have some additional awards.  They will be determined by the committee and at full discretion of the committee.
OK, on to the official stuff….all entries must be projects from this current year.  All entries must be quilted.  If you are not a quilter, you can have it quilter by a professional, but that will be taken into consideration at award time.  Please be sure you recognize your quilters. If you win, you may want to think about splitting your award with your quilter.  Each entry must be bound and labeled.  You must have a hanging sleeve on it.  You can find instructions for this on the guild wed site.   You must also have your artist statement.  This is a short statement where you talk about your inspiration.

Please be sure to include the following:

1.      The name of your project if it is a quilt or wall hanging ( I don’t expect you to name apparel or handbags)
2.      Why was this project a challenge for you?
3.      What insight have you gained from the experience
4.      Are you pleased with the end result or what would you have done differently?
5.      Would you ever do this type of project again?

All entries must be turned in one hour prior to the day meeting on September 10, 2010.  The voting process will continue through the night chapter meeting on September 14, 2010.  The winners and will be announced at the September 14th meeting.

One very important note:  Please contact me with the size of your entry.   If you could do this by September 1st, I would appreciate it.    I have to figure out how we will display them and the dimensions are very important to this process.   Your projects may be dropped off at Bella Fabrics if you are unable to get them to the day guild meeting.  I will be happy to transport them for you.

Any questions, contact me, Lisa Steele at 757-238-7747.  Any complaints, volunteer next year! LOL
See you all soon!
